Rather than flipping the lid open, you have to remove it completely to pour. ![]() Our other minor issue with this machine is the snap-on lid for its carafe. We didn't have great results making just a single cup, which came out under-infused and not hot enough, but other machines did worse jobs on that front. (On the other hand, if you're just making hot coffee every day and don't need any special brewing modes, why pay extra for them?) We did enjoy the "pause brew" function, which stops brewing automatically when you take the carafe off the base-it's ideal for those mornings when you can't get coffee into your mug fast enough. You can choose from regular or "bold" strength, and four batch sizes in addition to a full carafe, but that's it. (When you're making a full pot, though, be sure not to overfill the filter with grounds: We used too much in one test and wound up with bits of beans in the finished coffee.)īesides its standard 24-hour programmable timer, the Cuisinart's settings are pretty minimal. That made for well-extracted coffee with bold flavors. While other test machines couldn't bring water all the way up to the optimal 195- to 205-degree range suggested by the National Coffee Association, the Cuisinart managed 207 near the end of its brew cycle. It's easy to set up and program, and there's even an adjustable carafe temperature setting that held steady at 176 degrees in our 30- and 60-minute temperature checks. Its brew was complex, nutty, fruity, and well-balanced, a feat even more impressive when you consider its enormous 14-cup capacity. ![]() We tested coffee makers that cost up to six times as much as this Cuisinart, and it outperformed every last one. ![]() Cuisinart 14-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker Can Do It All
